    Emerald City Pet Rescue is a nonprofit organization that exists to rescue abused, neglected, and homeless animals. We are looking for a full-time Barn Hand to attend to our horses in West Seattle. Our ideal candidate is reliable, attentive, and passionate about caring for horses.

     

    Our Barn Hands are responsible for daily cleaning of stalls and pastures, assisting with inventory management, daily horse blanketing, assisting during vet and farrier visits, maintaining the tack room and grain room, and assisting with the upkeep of the barn as needed.

     

    Schedule: Full-time 7:30 am – 4:00 pm

     

    Responsibilities:

    • Clean stalls, remove wet and dirty bedding and replace with clean, dry bedding daily
    • Keep aisle-ways swept, clean and free of unnecessary clutter
    • Keep water buckets clean and full of water (filled, cleaned and disinfected daily)
    • Turn horses out in the mornings per pasture management/turn-out schedule, and bring them back in during the evening
    • Feed hay, grain, and supplements according to feed chart (morning feeding)
    • Blanket horses as necessary and report dirty or torn blankets
    • Clean, organize, and maintain tack room and grain room as needed
    • Hold for farrier & vet appointments
    • Manage delivery of hay and clean out hay rooms prior to each delivery
    • Manage inventory deliveries including bedding delivery
    • Manage manure pit, including manage manure pick-up
    • Report animal health problems and or injuries
    • Administer medications and provide first aid for injuries as needed
    • Report maintenance needs to pastures and physical structures (for example, gates, railing, stalls, stall doors, barn doors, etc.)
    • Assist barn manager as needed

    Qualifications:

    • High School Diploma or equivalent
    • Horse care experience required
    • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. without assistance, and frequently push, pull, bend, twist, and stand throughout the day
