Native Arabic Linguist – Entity Recognition & Linking

20 hours/week; (more hours are available for the right candidate)

    Hourly Rate: $35/hour

At DefinedCrowd, we make machines smarter for Fortune 500 companies. Our focus is on improving Artificial Intelligence technologies through natural language processing – and we need linguists to train new models.

We are searching for a Native Arabic speaker that got their degree in Linguistics in the US and who have cultural knowledge of their home country to help with our ongoing Entity Recognition & Linking projects.

This job will consist of reading social media posts – these could be anything from posts about Beyoncé to dense news articles– and then identifying the relevant entities within those posts. Entities are typically people, places, companies, etc. A strong attention to detail is imperative, as you will be correcting an algorithm that often struggles with ambiguous context.

The articles you’ll be reading are written by speakers from all over the world and will cover all topics imaginable. If it can be posted on social media, you could see it. You should be familiar with popular brands, events, slang.

This job will be based out of an onsite location in Seattle which will require the individual to commute in. Once they are well-trained in the job, remote work may become an option.

The most important requirement is that you can commit 20 working hours every week, and you are available to work onsite in Seattle. We will most likely have you start working on this project remotely, and then based on your performance transition you to working onsite in Seattle. We’re doing this project in partnership with one of our clients – you would be working onsite in their offices, not in DefinedCrowd’s office.

    • Native Arabic speaker
    • Hold a degree in Linguistics (BA or greater)
    • Have 5+ years’ experience in a Linguistics related field
    • Fluent English communication skills – the instructions and training will be entirely in English
    • Accommodate a 20-hour work week
    • Able to work onsite in Seattle, Washington
    • Familiar with social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, etc.)

Previous experience with other entity-linking or entity-recognition projects would be advantageous but isn't required.

If you have the ability (and time) to work on this project, we'd love to hear from you.
