    Instructional Designer

     

     

    R.D. Merrill, a privately held, 5th generation family company with a proud history of success is currently hiring an Instructional Designer at our Corporate Offices in Seattle, WA.

    Our Instructional Designer will support sister companies Merrill Gardens and Pillar Properties.

     

    With over 1800 team members and growing, the R.D. Merrill Company has a senior housing division, Merrill Gardens, as well as Pillar Properties, an award-winning developer of multi-family housing and senior housing.

     

    The Instructional Designer will apply adult learning theories and instructional design methodology to research, recommend, produce and edit training materials for a variety of delivery methods and audiences. They will work closely with subject matter experts (SMEs) to identify training needs and provide viable solutions. This position must have a strong understanding of how to leverage available technologies and other modern methods used for curriculum design and delivery, while supporting our development standards and organizational initiatives. You will play a key role in developing a “Best in Class” training environment for our team members.

     

    Responsibilities

    • Demonstrate working knowledge of a learning design process.
    • Foster healthy working relationships and communicate regularly with SMEs, stakeholders and other key contributors across the entire organization.
    • Conduct training needs assessments to identify program gaps, followed with designing, developing and implementing extraordinary solutions.
    • Conduct training needs assessments to identify program gaps.
    • Research  potential   training   content   providers   to   serve   as   partners   in   curriculum development.
    • Write applicable learning objectives for a variety of organizational disciplines and develop and evaluate learning and training programs consistent with our brand.

     

    Qualities

    • Ability to set priorities, track progress and meet deadlines for deliverables across multiple simultaneous projects. Persevering approach despite facing obstacles or set-backs.
    • Ability to apply  adult-learning  best  practices  and  methodology  to  encourage  learning retention.
    • Have excellent written and verbal communication skills, an eye for detail, and high level of personal accountability.
    • Strong listening skills and ability to ask clarifying questions.
    • A desire to maintain consistency but willing to challenge the status quo with new innovative ideas.
    • Enjoy splitting time working in both a team environment and independently.


    Requirements

    • B.A. or B.S. Degree in Education or Instructional Design, or equivalent work experience.
    • 3+ years of instructional design and training program development experience.
    • 2+ years of experience working with or using an LMS. 
    • Knowledge of learning development software and learning management systems.
