Emerald City Pet Rescue is a nonprofit organization that exists to rescue abused, neglected and homeless animals. We are looking for a Licensed DVM Equine Veterinarian to support our brand new Sanctuary on Vashon Island. This position would require you to live onsite and would provide housing and full amenities. We are looking for someone who is passionate about the care of our horses.

 

This is the perfect opportunity for someone looking to experience true equine emersion as you care for 35 beautiful horses in a serene environment. Our horses come from various backgrounds and are ready to experience the love, safety, and care only our sanctuary has to offer.  

 

 

Emerald City Pet Rescue adheres to the highest standards of practice in the veterinary community. Emphasis is placed on wellness and rehabilitation. This is a hands-on position and would require supporting the daily operations of our sanctuary. We are seeking an easy going, professional, and adaptable veterinarian who is committed to practicing progressive medicine.

 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Provide daily routine care of horses.
  • Evaluate symptoms, determines nature of any disease or injury.
  • Perform surgery as needed. 
  • Prescribe and administer treatments and drugs.
  • Test and inoculate horses against diseases.
  • Remain current with new treatments.
  • Practice prevention and control of communicable diseases.
  • Consider ongoing safety for our animals, staff, and guests, foresee safety concerns, prevent, and act accordingly.
  • Medically treat animals, professionally represent the organization, and exhibit commitment to overall goals and deadlines set by management.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • D.V.M from accredited school required.
  • 5+ years of experience providing care for horses.
  • Previous experience in a management or supervisory role, preferred.
  • Shelter, rescue or rehabilitation experience appreciated.
  • Experience with emergency response greatly appreciated.
  • Must be willing to work with flexibility and provide on call/emergency support as needed.
  • Self-motivated, willing to work individually and as a part of the team.
  • The ability to work under stressful conditions.
  • Maintain confidentiality appropriate for position and responsibilities.
  • Detail-oriented, proactive, ability to effectively prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
  • Able to train, led by example, and provide direction to other staff members.
  • Knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Must demonstrate professional verbal and written communication skills.
